A scholarship announcement from the Department of Education and training was welcomed by La Trobe Mildura. The scholarships valued at $3,000 have been established to promote alternative pathways into initial teaching education courses.
Students commencing the Bachelor of Educational Studies in Semester 1 next year will be eligible to apply for one of these scholarships. For those students currently completing first year of Educational Studies and transitioning into Primary or Secondary Teaching degrees, they will be able to apply for a $2,000 scholarship.
Head of Campus, Dr Deb Neal said “we know that many students utilise the Bachelor of Educational Studies as a pathway to a teaching degree and to formally recognise that with financial support is fantastic for our students.”
These scholarships coupled with the recent Destination Australia Scholarships announced by the Australian Government will attract and support more students to study in regional locations.
La Trobe University was awarded 94 scholarships in total with 8 of those awarded to La Trobe’s Mildura Campus. Five scholarships are available for domestic students and 3 for international students.
The Destination Australia scholarships are worth $15,000 per year for the duration of a student’s course or up to 4 years. Students eligible for these scholarships must be a new domestic or international student commencing their first year of study in a Bachelor degree or Masters by coursework in 2020 and be studying full-time at a regional campus.
“We have a lot of financial support available for our students in the form of bursaries and scholarships through support from our wonderful community partners. We currently award over $50,000 of scholarships each year. The addition of these new scholarships will see that number triple next year, meaning more students financially supported to study locally,” Dr Neal said.
Applications are now open for the scholarships, for study in 2020.
