The event uncovered the local pathways and career opportunities the students have in the Sunraysia region after completing year twelve, whilst adding a big element of fun.
With final exams only a few months away and applications opening very soon, Year 12 students are starting to think about their future careers and next steps. La Trobe University and SuniTAFE essentially made the Senior College their Campus on Tuesday 16 July with branding on the walls, the SuniTAFE transporter parked in the school grounds and many activities and academics from each organisation providing key information to students.
The day consisted of a Q&A panel session about pathways into higher education, current student experiences about the transition to further study and the ins and outs, as well as tips on applying through VTAC.
Students selected to attend two information sessions in different disciplinary areas to find out more about their potential chosen pathway. These sessions ranged from, Nursing/Health to Ag and Hort and Business and Engineering and were co-delivered by an academic from SuniTAFE and La Trobe to show students about all the pathways. Students then moved into a pathway session with their school teachers to formalise an action plan before enjoying some free lunch from the food truck area.
La Trobe University, Head of Campus, Dr Deb Neal said, “We are thrilled to be able to deliver this exciting event for Mildura Senior College. We are always looking for fun and exciting ways to engage students and let them know about the many options they have to study locally and it’s great to be able to showcase SuniTAFE and La Trobe together.”
SuniTAFE’s CEO Geoff Dea said, “This event is an opportunity to showcase the many study options available to students who wish to continue their studies locally. It is also a demonstration of the collaborative partnership that exists between Mildura Senior College, SuniTAFE and La Trobe University who together, are combining to provide great education outcomes in our community.”
