Dried out? The future of inland cities.

The city of Mildura is set to be the venue of a wide-ranging conversation seeking to find answers on the future of Australia’s inland cities.

Locals will have the opportunity to hear from a panel of experts on the challenges facing cities like Mildura, when La Trobe University holds its Bold Thinking event in Mildura on Thursday 4 April.

It is the first time the University’s public event series is being held in the city. Panellists include; Victorian Farmers Federation representative Emma Germano, agriculture policy expert and ACCC Commissioner, Mick Keogh, University planning expert Julie Rudner and Mildura business leader and community advocate Ross Lake.

The event titled ‘Dried out?  The future of inland cities’ will examine the social, economic and environmental changes facing communities in the Mallee is discuss what the community could do to ensure its long term success.

Pro Vice-Chancellor (Regional) Professor Richard Speed says La Trobe’s Bold Thinking series was a public lecture event like no other.

“Given the recent Victorian state election results and looming federal election, I know this topic will be of great interest to Mildura locals. I’m thrilled we’re able to draw such high profile speakers in Emma Germano and ACCC Commissioner Mick Keogh to Mildura.  Alongside La Trobe academic Julie Rudner and well respected businessman Ross Lake, the breadth of the panel members means the topic from can be explored from many angles such as; small business, agriculture, community development and water,” Professor Speed said.
