Computers in the Library
All La Trobe University campus libraries provide access to computers, though availability, access requirements and equipment vary by location.
Where available, Library computer workstations are generally equipped with:
- Internet and printing access
- the following software:
- Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Publisher and PowerPoint
- EndNote
- IBM SPSS Statistics
- Matlab
- VLC media player
- USB 2.0 and USB-C ports
- a headphone/microphone jack.
Computers and equipment at each campus
Select the locations for more information about the equipment available in the library at that campus.
Computers
- There are 15 PCs available to La Trobe students and staff (11 on Level 1 and four on Level 2).
- There is one PC available for guest/public use on Level 1.
- There are two PCs available to search the Library collections (one each on Levels 1 and 2). You cannot print or browse the Internet from this computer.
Other equipment and facilities
- There are two height-adjustable workstations available on Level 1 for La Trobe student use. Priority is given to students with a disability or other accessibility needs, so they should be vacated upon request.
- Secure lockers with power points are available on Level 1.
Computers
- There are 26 PCs and Macs available to La Trobe students and staff across Levels 1 to 3.
- There are two PCs available for guest/public use (in the Level 1 Help Zone and Level 2 Room 201).
- There are two PCs available to search the Library collections (one each on Levels 2 and 3). You cannot print or browse the Internet from this computer.
Other equipment and facilities
- There are two online learning rooms (Rooms 2.01A and 2.01C) with monitors, speakers and webcams.
- An LCD monitor with a HDMI input is available in Room 124A on Level 1.
- There are eight height-adjustable workstations available for La Trobe student use. Priority is given to students with a disability or other accessibility needs, so they should be vacated upon request.
- AV equipment (DVD/VHS) is available on request.
- Secure lockers with power points are available in the Student Union area on Level 1.
Computers
- There are approximately 90 PCs available to La Trobe students and staff across Levels 1 to 3.
Note: Apple Mac computers are no longer available at this library. Students that require access to these computers can do so in the Mac Labs in ED2 210 and HU2 331.
- There are two PCs available for guest/public use on Level 1.
- There is one PC available to search the Library collections on Level 3. You cannot print or browse the Internet from this computer.
Other equipment and facilities
- There are 50 bring-your-own-device (BYOD) monitors on Levels 2 and 3.
- A microfilm viewer and a microfiche reader are located in the Special Collections Reading Room on Level 1. Please inquire at the Library Help Zone if you need access.
- There are six height-adjustable workstations available on Levels 1 to 3 for La Trobe student use. Priority is given to students with a disability or other accessibility needs, so they should be vacated upon request.
- Secure lockers with power points are available on Level 2.
Computers
- There are 20 PCs available to La Trobe students and staff in the computer lab (Room 2.21), unless the room is being used to teach a class. You can check if a class is scheduled via Allocate+.
- There are no guest/public PCs available.
Other equipment and facilities
- LCD monitors with HDMI inputs are available in the open and enclosed breakout spaces across the campus.
- Secure lockers with power points are available on Levels 2 and 3.
Computers
- There are five PCs available to La Trobe students and staff. You will need to sign in with your La Trobe credentials to use these computers.
- There is one PC available for guest/public use.

Note: The Sydney campus library (on Level 8) is shared across multiple institutions, while Level 1 is primarily a La Trobe space (except for the lecture theatre).

- There are approximately 20 PCs available to La Trobe students and staff in the Level 1 student touchdown areas.
Note: You will need to sign in with your Sydney campus credentials (not your standard La Trobe ones) to use these computers.
- There are no guest/public PCs available.
- There are two PCs available to search the Library collections on Level 8. You cannot print or browse the Internet from these computers.
Other equipment and facilities
- Study rooms on Level 8 include TV screens with HDMI inputs and Blu-ray players.
- Secure lockers with power points are available on Level 1.
Conditions of use for Library computers
When using the Library computers, you must adhere to the following conditions:
- When logging in, you must use your university username and password.
- You must comply with the University's Use of Computer Facilities Statute 2009.
- Do not unplug power/network cables or remove auxiliary devices such as keyboards and mice.
Using your own laptop or device
All campus libraries provide places to study with access to individual study desks and, in some cases, meeting rooms and group tables.
Staff and students from La Trobe, and other institutions on the eduroam network, will be able to connect to the Library's WiFi and print from your laptop/device.
Secure lockers to recharge your laptop are available at the Albury-Wodonga and Melbourne (Bundoora) campus libraries. Bendigo campus has lockers available in the student union area on Level 1.
Guest/Public use computers
Guest/Public use computers allow access to the Internet without requiring a login. There are only a limited number of these computers available at the following campus libraries:
- Albury-Wodonga
- Bendigo
- Melbourne (Bundoora)
- Mildura
If you are visiting with your own laptop or tablet, you may need to use your mobile phone as a personal Wi-Fi hotspot as public Wi-Fi access is not currently provided by La Trobe.
