Build your project with us

Have an idea to improve learning & teaching in your course?

Our collaborative approach focuses on co-designing Open Educational Resources (OERs) through our open pedagogy model, creating award-winning solutions and gaining significant recognition.

As your project partner, we provide direct support in key areas — expertise, infrastructure and tools — to move your project from idea to impact.

How it works

Our process guides you through each of these key stages.

  • Project strategy and planning

We help you build a solid foundation for a successful and impactful project.

    • Focusing on project impact: Using a problem-focused, backward design approach to tackle key learning barriers.
    • Scoping effective features: Advising on teaching solutions enabled by OER and open licensing.
    • Creating a project roadmap: Establishing timelines, identifying stakeholders & roles, and a plan for sharing and promoting your initiative.
  • Content development

We provide practical support and technologies to bring your content to life.

    • Author guidance: Providing templates to develop content that is accessible, digital-first and inclusive.
    • Multimedia & interactive learning: Sourcing, creating and embedding media, diagrams and interactive activities from open access repositories where relevant.
    • OER sourcing and adaptation: Identifying high-quality existing OER for you to adapt (where relevant), saving time and building on existing content.
    • Professional design: Coordinating graphic design for covers, basic diagrams and layouts   .
  • Production and publication

We handle the technical execution to transform your content into a professional digital-first publication.

    • Reviewing content: Facilitating peer review and professional editing (both structure and copy).
    • Digital publishing: Ingesting, formatting/styling and publishing your work on a specialist open platform.
    • Quality assurance: Conducting reviews for copyright compliance, accessibility and inclusion.
    • Maximising reach: Registering permanent identifiers (DOI, ISBN). Disseminating to global OER repositories and library collections.
  • Implementation & impact evaluation

We support you in putting your project into practice and measuring its success.

    • Implementation workshop: Facilitating reflective practice sessions to plan your rollout.
    • Promotion & engagement: Helping create materials to engage stakeholders.
    • Measuring use/impact: Advising on evaluation methods and gathering evidence of usage and learning analytics.
  • Recognition and research

We work with you to embed opportunities for research publications and greater professional recognition into your project from the beginning.

    • Pursuing recognition: Planning for education awards, grant applications and academic promotion cases.
    • Scholarship of Teaching & Learning (SoTL): Sharing the impact of your work on learning outcomes and teaching practice through SoTL publications backed up by your data.

Working together

In this partnership, the La Trobe eBureau provides open education expertise, strategic planning, technical execution and project coordination support.

You lead the project – framing the learning problem, building a team of collaborators, contributing disciplinary insight, developing content and embedding the OER-powered solution into your teaching practice.

Examples of our projects

Since 2016, we have supported more than 25 projects implemented or currently in development. Explore this selection of our exemplars to get ideas for your project.

Led by Dr Julian Pakay, this project produced two award-winning open textbooks that address persistent challenges in STEM education:

These OERs develop students as practitioners, teach concepts through real-world scenarios and motivate learning through authentic context and examples. Our success came from designing the project as a learning and teaching intervention.

Key outcomes

Scholarship of learning & teaching opportunities

Academic recognition via invited papers & keynotes

Led by Dr Julia Dehm, this cross-institutional initiative created an award-winning edited collection of OERs. This provides the open knowledge foundation for transforming law education to face urgent, real-world challenges:

Using a ‘living textbook’ model, we built a network of collaborators across half of Australia’s law schools.

Explore our case study: Using open practices and OERs to catalyse change and collectively advocate for climate conscious legal education.

Key outcomes

Attracted contributing authors from half the law schools in Australia

Won multiple awards
(both global and university-level)
