Conclusion and “Back Matter”
Conclusion
Conclude the chapter by concisely reviewing the content covered through a short 1-2 paragraph summary of the main points.
Mirror the learning outcomes and elements from your introduction by providing:
- key takeaways – a handful of 3-5 central ideas in dot point form
- a perspective on how practice may be different now that the practitioner is equipped with this new knowledge
- direction on where to expand upon these concepts elsewhere in the book (if relevant).
Knowledge Check
Use at least one knowledge check for learners to self-assess after engaging with your chapter.
These could be as simple as questions that provoke critical thinking about how to apply your topic in different contexts.
Consider various interactive activity types (via H5P technologies) you could choose for this.
Example: End-of-chapter interactive knowledge checks in the conclusion to Overview of Anatomy and Physiology from the open textbook Fundamentals of Anatomy and Physiology.
