STEM OER Team Highly Commended at Vice-Chancellor’s Staff Awards

The STEM OER team received a Highly Commended VC Staff Award for co-creating open biology and biomedicine resources with strong student engagement and global impact.
The STEM Open Education Resources team has been recognised with a Highly Commended distinction at this year’s Vice-Chancellor’s Staff Awards in the ‘Innovative’ cultural qualities category, celebrating an impact-driven approach to transforming STEM education.
The team developed open educational resources for biology and biomedicine using co-creative, cross-departmental ways of working. The project’s two core resources are available for all teaching staff to use:
- Threshold Concepts in Biochemistry
- Foundations of Biomedical Science: Quantitative Literacy Theory and Problems
These two resources address long-standing challenges in STEM education and have generated strong global interest, with tens of thousands of web engagements and adoption at Monash University and the University of Sydney. They have both attracted scholarly recognition through external awards, keynote invitations, and commissioned publications.
