La Trobe University students and staff

La Trobe University students and staff are already members of the library and do not need to join. Your current La Trobe University ID card is your library card and is used for borrowing. Online databases or resources are accessible using your LTU username and password.

La Trobe College Australia students and staff

All La Trobe College Australia students and staff are eligible to become members of the library. Your current La Trobe College Australia ID card is your library card and is used for borrowing.

How to become a member

  1. If you are a student who has not used the library before, go to the Inquiry Desk to enrol.
  2. If you are a staff member, obtain an authorisation form from the La Trobe College Australia office. Take the completed form, with the signature of the College principal and director, to the Inquiry Desk to enrol.

Borrowing

Students can borrow up to 30 items at a time for a period of 28 days with up to 2 renewals.

Staff can borrow unlimited items for a period of 60 days with up to 2 renewals.

You can use the following items in the library but cannot borrow them:

  • journals (including magazines and newspapers)
  • reference items.

Access to eresources

Databases or online resources are only accessible using your LTM username and password on a library computer. You can connect to wireless internet but won't be able to access library online resources using your laptop or mobile devices. Note: Company360, TV News, and LexisNexis AU databases are not available. Ebooks and e-reserve items on your reading list are not available using your login details.

Wodonga TAFE students and staff

All staff and students of Wodonga Institute of TAFE are eligible to become members of the library.

How to become a member

  1. Fill in a staff or student enrolment form and present it to the Inquiry/Loans Desk with your current student or staff ID card.
  2. Your Wodonga TAFE ID card is also your library membership card. You must have your card with you in order to borrow.

Borrowing

Your borrowing privileges are mostly the same as those for La Trobe students and staff. For more information see the LibGuides or Library@Student Central.

Access to eresources

You can access the TAFE subscribed eresources (including articles, ebooks, standards and streaming video) from the LibGuides or see Library@Student Central.

You cannot access the La Trobe University Library eresources outside the library due to licensing agreements. However you can access many of these resources (excluding ebooks) on the guest computers in the library.

Alumni

Library membership is free for all graduates and former staff of La Trobe University (Alumni). Your membership will provide access to selected databases for non-commercial/personal use only.

You can also borrow most items from our campus libraries.

Become a member

  1. Complete the Alumni library membership sign-up form
  2. You will receive an email within 5 business days of registering, with your membership details and information about how to get started with your library membership.
  3. For information on how to obtain a physical borrower card, please contact us on 9479 2922 or visit your nearest campus library. You will need current photo ID.

Access resources

View the list of databases and online resources accessible by alumni.

You can borrow up to 10 physical and Audio Visual (some restrictions apply) items at a time for a period of 28 days with up to 2 renewals.

You can use the following items in the library but cannot borrow them:

  • short term loan (7 day) items

CAVAL

If you are a student or staff member of an institution listed on the CAVAL participating libraries page, you can become a member of the La Trobe University Library. You will be able to borrow items from most collections in the library, including collections at other campus libraries, and use the library facilities.

How to become a member

  1. Bring your current student/staff ID card from your home institution to the Help Zone/Loans Desk along with proof of your enrolment (e.g. confirmation of enrolment letter).
  2. We will issue you with a CAVAL card and will attach a La Trobe University Library barcode.
  3. You can then use the CAVAL card to borrow items using the self-checkout machines or at the Help Zone/Loans Desk.

Borrowing

As a CAVAL borrower, you can borrow up to 10 items at a time for a period of 28 days with up to 2 renewals.

You can use the following items in the library but cannot borrow them:

  • journals (including magazines and newspapers)
  • videos and DVDs
  • short term loan, reserve or reference items.

Access to eresources

You do not have access to online material such as ejournals or databases. You can use the eduroam network to connect your laptop/mobile device to wireless internet using your home institution's username and password.

ULANZ

If you are a student or staff member of an institution listed on the ULANZ participating universities page, you can become a member of the La Trobe University Library. This will enable you to borrow items from most collections in the library, including collections at other campus libraries, and use the library facilities.

How to become a member

  1. Bring your current student/staff ID card from your home institution to the Help Zone/Loans Desk along with proof of your enrolment (student) or your employment status (staff).
  2. You will be asked to complete a membership form and will be required to purchase an LTU ID card ($30).
  3. You can then use the card to borrow items using the self-checkout machines or at the Inquiry/Loans Desk.

Borrowing

You can borrow up to 10 items at a time for a period of 28 days with up to 2 renewals.

You can use the following items in the library but cannot borrow them:

  • journals (including magazines and newspapers)
  • videos and DVDs
  • short term loan, reserve or reference items.

Access to eresources

You do not have access to online material such as ejournals or databases. You can use the eduroam network to connect your laptop to wireless internet.

VCE/HSC students and teachers

Melbourne, Bendigo & Albury-Wodonga

As a local student/teacher studying/teaching a VCE/HSC subject, you can become a member of the library. This will enable you to borrow items from the print collection, including items at other campus libraries, and use the library facilities.

How to become a member

  1. Print the VCE/HSC Membership form.
  2. If you are a student, have the form signed by your parents and verified by your school.
  3. If you are a teacher, have the form verified by your school.
  4. Take the form to the Library Help Zone/Loans Desk at any La Trobe campus library during opening hours.
  5. Bring your current school student photo ID card if you have one so that a library barcode may be attached to your school ID card. Your membership expires on 30 November each year.

Borrowing

You can borrow up to 10 print items for a period of 28 days with up to 2 renewals. You can use the following items in the library but cannot borrow them:

  • journals (including magazines and newspapers)
  • videos and DVDs
  • 3 hour, 3 day, 7 day and reference items.

Mildura

As a local student/teacher studying/teaching a VCE/HSC subject, you can become a member of the joint use TAFE/La Trobe library. This will enable you to borrow items from the print collection and use the library facilities. This service is free to you.

How to become a member

  1. Print the VCE Mildura Membership form.
  2. If you are a student, have the form signed by your parents and verified by your school.
  3. If you are a teacher, have the form verified by your school.
  4. Take the form to the Circulation Desk at The Sunraysia Institute of TAFE library during opening hours.
  5. A barcode will be attached to your school ID card.  Your membership expires on 30 November each year.

Borrowing

You can borrow up to 10 print items for a period of 21 days with 1 renewal. You may borrow back issues of journals for 7 days, and DVD/videos for 7 days (no renewals)

You can use the following items in the library but cannot borrow them:

  • Latest issues of journals (including magazines and newspapers)
  • 3 hour, 3 day, 7 day and reference items.

Shepparton

As a local student/teacher studying/teaching a VCE subject, you can become a member of the library. This will enable you to borrow items from the print collection, and use the library facilities.

How to become a member

  1. Print the VCE Shepparton Membership form.
  2. If you are a student, have the form signed by your parents and by your school Principal.
  3. If you are a teacher, have the form signed by your school Principal.
  4. Take the form to the GOTAFE/La Trobe Shepparton campus library during opening hours.
  5. Bring your current school student ID card if you have one. If you do not have an acceptable card you need to purchase a Library card ($10) from the GOTAFE student administration Your membership expires on 30 November each year.

Borrowing

You can borrow up to 3 print items for a period of 28 days with 1 renewal. You can use the following items in the library but cannot borrow them:

  • videos and DVDs
  • short term loan or reserve items

Early admissions program

The Aspire Early Admissions Program is an exciting initiative for domestic undergraduate school leavers for entry into La Trobe from Semester 1, 2015.

Community

Community membership is free.

Anyone aged 18 or over can become a community borrower at our Melbourne, Bendigo, Albury-Wodonga, and Shepparton campuses. Mildura Library is operated by SuniTAFE and community membership can be arranged through SuniTAFE for a fee.

How to become a member

  1. Take a form of current photo ID to the library service desk at your nearest campus library.
  2. Complete the membership form and we will issue you with a Library Membership card to use for borrowing.

Borrowing

You can borrow up to 10 physical and audio-visual items (some restrictions apply) at a time for a period of 28 days with up to 2 renewals.

You can use short term loan (7 day) items in the library but cannot borrow them.

Access to eresources

Public access computers are available at our Bundoora, Bendigo and Albury/Wodonga campus libraries.
