Read and Publish agreements
Read & Publish agreements combine payment for subscription access (read) and open access publication (publishing) into one fee, which allows La Trobe University authors to avoid paying, or receive a discount on, Article Processing Charges (APCs) with certain publishers.
Publishers with APC discounts or waivers
Most of our Read & Publish agreements are negotiated with publishers by the Council of Australasian University Librarians (CAUL), on behalf of multiple universities.
The Library maintains a complete list of publishers with APC discounts or waivers available to La Trobe authors. The list includes key details for each agreement, with links to further information.
Publishers with APC discounts available include BMC and MDPI. The Library also has a direct APC waiver agreement with Nature.
Note: You must use your La Trobe email address when submitting your article to be eligible for an APC discount or waiver.
Journals with full APC waivers under CAUL agreements
To help you decide where to publish your article as open access, the Library has developed the Read & Publish Journal Search Tool. This tool lists journals with a full APC waiver under our CAUL Read & Publish agreements.
Where available, we include key journal metrics from SCImago, SciVal and Journal Citation Reports (JCR) to support your decision‑making.
Using the tool, you can:
- search, filter and sort journals by a range of criteria
- access detailed information about the relevant CAUL agreement or visit the publisher’s website
- export your filtered results as a CSV file.
Note: This journal search tool is only available to La Trobe staff.
