Have ideas? Want to shape the student experience at La Trobe? This is your chance!
Student Advisory Groups give you a direct way to share insights and help drive meaningful improvements within your School. Expressions of interest are now open on the Student Advisory Group page.
What are Student Advisory Groups?
Student Advisory Groups are one of the key ways La Trobe partners with students to improve the university experience – shaped by students, for students.
Each of La Trobe’s 10 Schools has its own group, creating a dedicated space for student input in School‑level decision‑making. These groups focus on real student experiences – including teaching and learning, communication and support services – to ensure your perspectives inform planning and improvement.
Why join?
Joining a Student Advisory Group is a great way to represent your peers, build confidence and make an impact without a large time commitment. For example, recent insights from the School of Psychology and Public Health Student Advisory Group directly shaped course redesign and improved review processes.
As a member, you will:
- Help influence teaching, subjects and student experience improvements
- Build confidence in sharing ideas and representing others
- Work directly with academic and professional staff
- Connect with other students who care about improving uni life
- Learn how decisions are made within your School and across the University
No prior experience is needed – just a willingness to share your perspective. Training and support are provided.
How it works
- Up to 10 student representatives per School
- Two to three meetings per year
- Participate in focused discussions on key student issues and solutions
- Supported by School staff
- Training provided in Semester 1 to build representative and leadership skills
Time commitment and recognition
You can expect to commit around 2–3 hours per month during the semester.
This is a voluntary role, supported by the Student Voice and Partnerships team. Participating students receive a Certificate of Completion and recognition towards the Career Ready Advantage Award (Professional Learning and Practical Experience).
