How we help
Our service is run by students who are supervised by qualified and experienced Orthoptists. We are committed to ensuring every client receives compassionate, evidence-based care while helping to shape the next generation of allied health professionals.
We can assist adults and children with:
- Comprehensive vision, ocular motility and binocular vision assessments of children and adults
- Management of children with amblyopia (patching or drops)
- Investigation and management of disorders of convergence and accommodation, including those secondary to concussion, traumatic brain injury and stroke
- Investigation and management of clients with diplopia (double vision), including prism correction
- Pre-operative assessment of children and adults with strabismus (eye turn)
- Myopia control for children that are short-sighted
- A comprehensive evaluation of children referred with reading difficulties.
We are also partnering with the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne to deliver high-quality paediatric care. Eligible patients of the Royal Children’s Hospital are co-managed by the La Trobe Eye Clinic.

We are unable to offer services to clients who have a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) plan.

Frequently Asked Questions
An Orthoptist specialises in assessing and managing eye movement disorders, binocular vision (how eyes work together), double vision, lazy eye (amplyopia) and focusing difficulties. They work closely with ophthalmologists and optometrists.
No. They assess vision and binocular function and may recommended whether glasses are needed but prescriptions are usually written by an optometrist or ophthalmologist.
As we are a teaching clinic our appointments may be up to 90 minutes long.

For all our services delivered by students we are unable to offer a rebate through private health insurance or Medicare.
