Support for your wellbeing during distressing local and global events

Our diverse student community brings together people with many lived experiences, identities and cultural backgrounds. When significant local or global events occur, whether they relate to conflict, natural disasters, political change or humanitarian crises, they can all affect your wellbeing.

It’s completely normal to feel unsettled, distracted or overwhelmed during times like these. Prioritising your mental health and knowing where to reach out for support can make a meaningful difference to how you feel.

When an event is impacting you negatively, you may experience some of the below feelings:

  • Feeling anxious, overwhelmed or fearful about the future
  • Feeling disconnected from friends, family or your student community
  • Difficulty concentrating or staying motivated to study
  • Feeling isolated or emotionally drained
  • Financial pressures or increased responsibilities at home
  • Grief, stress or concern for loved ones

Support services at La Trobe

We want to make sure you have all the tools and support you need to keep on top of your wellbeing. Free and confidential support is always available (including during uni break) through Wellbeing Services, which includes counselling support

You can also always visit the Wellbeing Resource Hub for support you can access and self-guided tools you can use to keep a healthy mind. Another option is the La Trobe Psychology Clinic, who provide affordable sessions (with provisionally registered psychologists) without the need for a referral.

If your studies are affected: Special Consideration

If you are applying for Special Consideration because you are impacted by concerning global or local events, please use this online application form. You will only need to provide a personal statement that outlines your circumstances in your application. If we require additional information from you, a member of the team will contact you.
