Delivered by psychologist Chiara Dargin (Strategy, Education & Prevention), Mental Health Basics is a four hour workshop that provides students with the basics to be able to recognize common mental health symptoms in themselves and their peers, respond to these concerns effectively and know where to refer for further support. The workshop includes an understanding of mental health myths and stigma.
The workshop covers an understanding of:
- depressive symptoms
- anxiety
- panic attacks
- suicidal behaviour
- self-harm
Micro counselling skills are taught to help communicate empathy, care and be able to support an individual on an emotional level. Finally, participants are provided with referral pathways and services that students and the public can access.
New date added!
The next workshop will be held on Thursday 23 March 2023, from 9.30 am – 1.30 pm at the Melbourne (Bundoora) Campus.
