Puppy power to de-stress before exams

October 21 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

When: Wednesday 21 October between 10am and 2pm

Where: La Trobe Bundoora campus, outside Health Sciences 3 (HS3) on the grass (weather dependent) or in the West Lecture Theatre foyer.

What: Puppy pats to de-stress before exams!

Who: Seeing Eye Dog puppies (cute!), Dr Milly Bell (Physiotherapy lecturer) and Liv Butcher (Seeing Eye Dogs Volunteer Partnerships Coordinator) will be attending. The number and ages of the pups will be a surprise on the day and could range from 8 week to 12 months old.

La Trobe University is putting research into ‘pawfect’ practice by bringing pups on campus for a day to interact with Bundoora students prior to October exams!

Early results from a preliminary study by Dr Milly Bell, a physiotherapy lecturer and keen dog owner, found that interacting with dogs before practical exams lowers physiotherapy students’ blood pressure compared to students who did not interact with the dogs.

In collaboration with Seeing Eye Dogs, La Trobe Bundoora students attending exams on Wednesday 21 October will get the opportunity to play with pups between 10am to 2pm to de-stress prior to exams. You can also learn what it takes to become a volunteer puppy carer – turning playful pups into trusted service dogs for people with blindness and low vision.
