Credit points: 30
Subject outline
This subject is one of three final year professional practicum subjects. Dependent on the allocated placement, students will focus on different specialized areas of practice. Supervised clinical practice occurs for 20 days over 4 weeks across one or multiple placement sites. In this foundation level clinical practicum subject, you will develop basic clinical and patient handling skills in a supervised context within the Eye & Ear Hospital clinical school network. You will also have an opportunity to travel and undertake non-metropolitain placements. At the end of the placement, it is expected that you will have developed skills to assess vision, various ocular structures, functions and pathologies within a clinical ophthalmology context. This subject will enable you to progress to the advanced Orthoptic Clinical Practicum subjects.
Attendance at professional placements will also contribute to meeting minimum requirements for workplace experience and professional accreditation.
