EVIDENCE BASED ORAL HEALTH PRACTICE
Credit points: 30
This is a capstone subject where students use existing knowledge and skills from earlier subjects (oral and basic sciences, public health and research methods) to apply evidence based practices and programs in a variety of settings. Emphasis will be placed on developing skills in evidence based and evidence informed practice to solve problems and to appreciate the limitations of evidence based practice. Students will use real examples from their clinical practice and community setting placements as a basis for their learning. Evidence-based practice is the current best approach to provide interventions that are scientific, safe, efficient and cost effective. In this subject students will prepare a report around a clinical problem. This process involves four phases: framing an answerable question from a clinical problem, searching for the best evidence, reviewing and critically appraising the evidence and application of this information in a way that supports clinical practice.
