Subject outline
This subject provides students with an introduction to some important issues, events and personalities from different periods in Italian history. Providing an historical and cultural perspective on a range of important topics, the subject focuses on how Italian writers, artists and film-makers among others have used controversial, transgressive or subversive means to contribute to social and cultural debates in the country. The primary material examined will include written and visual texts; secondary readings will provide the necessary background on the social, historical and cultural context. All texts will be available in English translation and all assessment will be in English.
