Research careers

La Trobe ranks at or above world standard in 38 specific disciplines in Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) rankings.

Our researchers are the backbone of these results and contribute to the thriving and interdisciplinary nature of our research academic community.

We recognise that excellent and impactful research occurs in a range of ways that are not necessarily recognised by rankings, research income or the ERA process, but we strive to have research activities meet equal intensity and comparable quality by providing support to all staff.

Our research mission: To increase human knowledge and strive for a better society through engaged, impactful, outstanding research.

La Trobe has a proud history of undertaking research to address pressing societal needs, never shying away from progressive and, at times, controversial topics. Our strong drive, combined with our breadth of expertise, means that our researchers are sought after for the understanding and impact that they bring to pressing questions.

I’ve been encouraged to apply for funding to undertake research that helps make a difference. During this time, I’ve also been supported with great flexibility whilst having a family.
