Why this course?

Aimed at people with no prior experience, this microcredential will give you foundational skills in access controls in computer systems and cryptographic tools.

 

Together with its companion course, Data Security and Information Controls, this microcredential can be stacked into a subject for potential advanced standing in the Bachelor of Cybersecurity.

Course content

Topics include:

  • The threat and vulnerabilities of digital data and how cryptography is used to implement information assurance
  • Threats faced by digital data and how to mitigate them
  • Cryptographic concepts and tools used by cybersecurity professionals
  • Cryptography for privacy
  • Reversable and irreversable architectures through encryption in SSL/TLS certificates
  • Classes of weakness in cryptography. 

On successful completion of this course, you wil be awarded a digital credential and earn 5 credit points that can be accumulated with its partner course, 'Data Security and Information Controls', to stack into 'Data Security and Information Assurance (CSE2SIA)', a subject within the Bachelor of Cybersecurity.

This microcredential will equip you with basic skills in:

  • Analysing access controls in computer systems
  • Applying cryptographic tools to mitigate threats to digital data.

This course is delivered over 2 weeks.  The total expected time commitment for this course is 40 hours, which includes guided learning, extended reading and assessment.  

 

The assessment for this course comprises:

  • Written report on safeguarding data and networis (50%)
  • Written report on access control in computer systems (50%).
