Easy ways to stay safe when parking on campus

We’re committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all La Trobe students and staff, and that includes our car parks.

When parking at any of our campuses (or anywhere else!) it’s important to take a few simple steps to help protect your vehicle and belongings. Most thefts from cars are opportunistic, so a little awareness can go a long way.

Simple steps to protect your vehicle

  • Lock up – always double-check that your doors and windows are locked before walking off, even if you’re only stepping away for a few minutes
  • Keep valuables out of sight – store bags, laptops and other personal items in the boot or take them with you

If your belongings are secured and out of sight, you reduce the risk of theft – and help keep our car parks safer for everyone!

Victoria Police also have extra tips for preventing theft from vehicles.

Keeping our campuses safe

Our on-campus security team regularly patrol car parks and other areas of the University, as well as monitoring CCTV and ensuring all car parks and walking paths are well-lit.

Need a hand getting around after dark?

The Uni-Safe service is available at our Melbourne (Bundoora), Bendigo and Albury-Wodonga campuses. Security officers can walk with you after dark between buildings, car parks and on-campus accommodation.

At our Melbourne (Bundoora) campus, they can also help with pick-ups and drop-offs to Reservoir or Macleod station, or to the 86 tram on Plenty Road.

See something? Say something

If you notice anything suspicious or something doesn’t feel right, don’t hesitate – call La Trobe Emergency on (03) 9479 2222 at any time of the day.
