Your gender identity options in StudentOnLine have changed

The gender options available to you in StudentOnLine have changed.

This will ensure we continue to foster an inclusive and respectful environment for all students, and will better reflect the diversity of our community. It will also help us provide better support for non-binary and gender diverse students and assist future government policy development.

New gender code options

You can now choose from the following gender identities:

  • Female/Woman
  • Male/Man
  • Non-binary
  • Different term
  • Prefer not to answer

These options are designed to give you more freedom to express your identity in the way that feels right for you.

What this means for you

If you are happy with your listed gender code option in StudentOnLine, you do not need to do anything.

There is a small number of students who may need to confirm their gender details and Student Administration will be in touch if this is you.

If you would like to change your gender identity you can now make changes directly and securely in StudentOnLine. This means you no longer need to submit an Amendment to Personal Details form or provide supporting documents to update your gender information.

Why we are making these changes

These changes ensure we’re consistent with updates by the Australian Government to gender codes, and are aligned with the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) standard and the Australian Government Guidelines on the Recognition of Sex and Gender.
