The people, places and moments that made uni feel like home

This blog was written by our Semester two intern, Monty.

University isn’t just about lectures and deadlines. It’s about the places that ground you, the people who inspire you and those small (and sometimes chaotic) moments that stay with you long after the semester ends.

I reached out to a few students and asked them to share one photo and story that captured what makes their time at La Trobe so meaningful. Here’s what they said.

1. Sheva – The Gym as a Lifeline

“The gym became my anchor – physically, mentally and socially. Moving to Melbourne from Singapore was tough but La Trobe Sport gave me a space to build strength and community at the same time.”

2. Jarrah – Residential Life, Real Life

“Living on res made La Trobe feel like home from the start. From spontaneous corridor chats to late-night hangs, this community has been the highlight of my uni journey.”

3. Natalie – A Global Stage

“Thanks to La Trobe, I got to present my PhD research at a wildlife conference in Norway. Travelling across the world while sharing what I love? Unreal.”

4. Shubhi – Simpson Lawn Serenity

“Between lectures, you’ll find me here: soaking up the sun, sipping on coconut water, watching ducks go about their business. This is where I find my peace.”

5. Monty – Dive Into Something New

“Joining Dive La Trobe reignited my love for the ocean. I got to explore Tasmania, meet amazing alumni, and see Australia’s sea life up close – all thanks to this club.”
