Student Wellbeing Connect – the right support at the right time

At La Trobe, we know that sometimes you might need a little extra support, whether that’s with study, life outside of uni, or just balancing it all. Student Wellbeing Connect is here to walk alongside you. As part of La Trobe University’s Wellbeing Services. Student Wellbeing Connect is a short-term case management service which helps connect you to the right supports at the right time.

How is it different from counselling?

Think of Student Wellbeing Connect as a practical first step.

  • We focus on goals and solutions: helping you improve your current circumstances and linking you to the right supports.
  • We use trauma-informed and goal-focused approaches, tailored to what matters most to you.
  • Counselling goes deeper – using evidence-based therapies to help you explore and shift underlying thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.

Both services are valuable – sometimes you might use both at different stages of your journey or perhaps alongside each other as both approaches are complimentary.

How we can help

We support students with a wide range of issues, including:

  • Mental health and wellbeing
  • Disability supports
  • Housing and accommodation concerns
  • Family or domestic violence
  • Relationship or family complexities
  • Grief and loss
  • General academic concerns
  • Other personal or interpersonal challenges

What you can expect

When you connect with us, you can expect a safe, supportive space where we will:

  • Focus on you as an individual and listen to your goals
  • Support you with whatever’s on your mind – study or personal life
  • Explore strength-based strategies to keep you on track
  • Help you access La Trobe and community services
  • Always respect your privacy and confidentiality
  • Liaise with other areas of the University (like academics, accommodation, or Student Advocacy) when needed

Often, with your consent, we’ll collaborate with other services – inside or outside La Trobe -to make sure you get the right support for your unique needs.
