Melbourne / Minimal disruptions during solar panel installation at Bundoora Library

As part of La Trobe University’s ambitious Net Zero project, the Bundoora Campus Library is undergoing solar panel installations.

Key details:

All library services will remain operational and all floors accessible.

Students and staff will be able to study and access collections and services as normal, as there are no penetrative works through the roof. To minimise disruption, contractors will keep noisier works to before 9 am.

If you a require a study space away from the construction noise, we recommend levels 1 and 2.

5 and 6 December

A crane on the east side of the Library – between the Social Sciences and Donald Whitehead Buildings – will be lifting equipment onto the roof. For safety purposes an exclusion area will operate with spotters, and signage will be erected near closed off areas.

From 9 December to February 2020

Contractors will be working between 7 am – 3 pm weekdays on the installation of the solar panels. During this time there will be an increase in construction noise and traffic to the roof from within and outside the Library.

17 February 2020

Planned power shutdown for four hours before 7 am opening.

The works will contribute to the 7,000 solar panels being fitted at the Melbourne campus, including 1164 on the Library building.
