Walking to class while checking your phone or chatting with friends is pretty normal – but distraction is one of the main reasons slips, trips and falls happen on campus. We’ve had students injured simply by not being fully present in the moment.
Look up and stay aware
When you’re moving around campus, try to stay focused on where you’re walking. Even small things can make a difference.
Watch out for:
- Steps, ramps and uneven surfaces
- Wet or slippery paths
- Obstacles like bags, cords or temporary signs
Putting your phone away and lifting your gaze can help you spot hazards early.
See a hazard or experience an incident? Report it
All incidents, hazards, near misses and injuries that occur at any La Trobe University campus or while on University business must be reported as soon as possible through the incident reporting system.
