With a range of affiliated sport clubs, competitions and facilities, La Trobe University offers a variety of ways to take a break from the books and get involved in sport and active recreation.
Here’s six ways to get involved with La Trobe Sport during Semester 2.
1. Make use of our world-class facilities
The first of its kind in Australia, the La Trobe Sports Park offers a unique environment to play, teach and research sport.
The best part? Students can access these facilities!
The Sports Stadium is the centrepiece of the Sports Park precinct, unlocking a range of opportunities in teaching, research and getting active in sports. Be sure to drop in to casually shoot some hoops, or hire one of our six courts to play sports which includes:
- basketball
- netball
- indoor soccer (futsal)
- volleyball
The La Trobe Sports Park is also the Home of the Matildas. Used by the Matildas in the lead up to their thrilling 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign, the facility is available for the team’s exclusive use whenever they are in camp, providing an elite training environment that caters to every need the team requires as the pre-eminent facility in the region.
Check out the virtual tour of the Sports Park.
2. Access gym discounts
La Trobe Sport has two gym facilities, one located at our Melbourne (Bundoora) campus and the other at the Bendigo campus.
To welcome our new community members, La Trobe Sport is offering a special new La Trobe student discount at both campuses, where students can receive up to 50% off our regular gym membership pricing during the Semester 2 Orientation period. Thanks to the support of Medibank, further discounts apply for residential students who live on campus.
But be quick! This limited-time only offer is available until Sunday 10 August 2025, so visit the La Trobe Indoor Sports Centre or Bendigo Sports Centre and speak to our friendly reception team to take advantage of this valuable gym membership.
3. Meet new people and make new friends
La Trobe University has 25 affiliated sporting clubs (including three affiliated clubs operating from the Bendigo Campus). All clubs are run by students (with support from La Trobe Sport) and provide something for everyone, from a great social atmosphere and competitions, to participation at an elite level.
You can find all of La Trobe’s affiliated clubs here.
4. Get your social fix and join a league!
La Trobe League is a great way to have fun and stay active during your time at La Trobe. Not only is La Trobe League an easy and affordable way to stay active, but it’s also a fun way to socialise with your friends or meet some new ones.
Competitions are hosted at both our Bundoora Campus (at the La Trobe Sports Stadium) and our Bendigo Campus (at the Bendigo Sports Centre). In Semester 2, we’re offering the following competitions:
- Sunday Men’s Basketball (Melbourne Campus)
- Monday Men’s Futsal (Melbourne Campus)
- Wednesday Mixed Netball (Bendigo Campus)
- Thursday Mixed Netball (Melbourne Campus)
Semester 2 competitions kick off on Sunday 27 July. There are no limits to who can join and all students, staff and community members are encouraged to come along.
La Trobe Sport will organise the fixtures, umpires, and ladders; all you need to do is sign up individually or get a team together.
Make sure you also join the La Trobe League Facebook group to keep up-to-date with the latest news, ladders, fixtures and competition updates.
5. Be part of something bigger with the Team La Trobe community
Representing Team La Trobe in intervarsity events, such as the UniSport Nationals or the University Basketball League, is a fantastic way to demonstrate your skills and experience elite sports competitions against other universities across Australia.
If community events are more your thing, you can still get fit, have fun, connect and participate in on-campus events, like our Run La Trobe community events held at the Melbourne (Bundoora) and Bendigo Campuses in September.

6. Support Team La Trobe’s representative sport teams
If you’re more inclined to cheer on a sport team from the sidelines, why not jump on board as a supporter of our Team La Trobe representative teams?
One of the main ways you can support Team La Trobe is by cheering on our University Basketball League (UBL) Men’s and Women’s teams in our home games at the La Trobe Sports Stadium.
In 2025, our Men’s team will be defending the national UBL title they won in 2024, while our Women’s team will be on the hunt for their third UBL championship following their victories in 2022 and 2023.
The Eagles will kick off their 2025 campaign with a home game against University of Tasmania on Tuesday 5 August. Entry to all home games is free, with giveaways on offer to those that attend home matches.
The 2025 UBL season will be followed soon after by the 2025 UniSport Australia Nationals, which will see Team La Trobe students compete on the Gold Coast from 27 September – 3 October against students from 43 member Universities around Australia.
