Subject Description:This subject enables students to work in the editorial team of La Trobe Universityís journalism programís online publication, www.upstart.net.au Students undertaking editorial duties on upstart are given the opportunity to develop practical skills publishing and editing in a content management system. Students take responsibility for writing items for the site, selecting copy from contributors, managing contributors, podcasting, moderating comments, utilising social media to publicise the siteís content and activities, writing search engine optimised (SEO) standfirsts and headlines and collaborating with other editors, writers and academic staff.
Prerequisites:JRN2DIJ / MST2DIJ and the completion of both first and second year levels of enrolment. Student must have co-ordinator's approval for enrolment into this subject.

Class Requirements:One 1-hour editorial meeting per week, and two hours additional project-related duties or research to be determined in consultation with staff editors
