COVID-19 Update - Parking permit refunds

In light of the latest extended lockdown across Victoria and the impact this is having on students and staff returning to campus in Semester 2 2021, La Trobe University will be offering parking permit refunds for students and staff at the Melbourne and Bendigo Campuses.

Student permit refunds

Students at the Melbourne and Bendigo Campuses (including residents who live on campus) who have purchased a yearly or half-yearly v-Permit in 2021 will receive the following refunds:

  • Yearly permit: 50% of the permit price will be refunded
  • Half-yearly permits (valid from 1/07/2021 - 31/12/2021): 100% of the permit price will be refunded

Refunds will be automatically applied and will be returned via the original method of payment (i.e. debit or credit card). Refunds will take approximately three weeks to process and for the funds to be returned. Thank you for your patience while these refunds are processed.

La Trobe Melbourne students who paid in person for their permits will be contacted directly by the La Trobe Traffic and Parking office (traffic@latrobe.edu.au) as the permit holder’s bank details are required before the refund can be processed via a bank transfer.

Staff permit refunds

Staff at the Melbourne and Bendigo Campuses who have purchased a yearly or half-yearly v-Permit in 2021 will receive the following refunds:

  • Yearly permit: 50% of the permit price will be refunded
  • Half-yearly permits (valid from 1/07/2021 - 31/12/2021): 100% of the permit price will be refunded

Parking fees for the remainder of 2021

Parking at Melbourne and Bendigo campuses will be free of charge until the end of 2021. Parking at the Albury-Wodonga, Mildura and Shepparton campuses is free.

How long will the refunds take to process?

Why is only 50% of my yearly permit being refunded?

For students or staff who purchased yearly permits, 50% of the permit price will be refunded. The percentage of the permit being refunded is based on validity dates for permits, which are noted on the website. Yearly permits are valid from 1 January to 31 December each year. By the end of August 2021, yearly permits only have four months (or 33%) remaining, however a refund of 50% will be provided.

I’m a staff member with a salary deducted vPermit for 2021, what happens to my parking permit?

Salary deducted permits will be suspended automatically by the University, effective for the pay fortnight ending 24 September 2021. The deduction will cease in staff member payslips on Thursday 23 September 2021.

I’m a student resident at the Melbourne/Bendigo Campus – do I still need to pay for parking?

No. Parking at Melbourne and Bendigo campuses will be free of charge until the end of 2021. If you are a resident and purchased a yearly of half-yearly permit (valid from 1/07/2021 - 31/12/2021), the refund will be automatically applied depending on which permit type you purchased:

  • Yearly permit: 50% of the permit price will be refunded
  • Half-yearly permits (valid from 1/07/2021 - 31/12/2021): 100% of the permit price will be refunded

Refunds will take approximately three weeks to process and for the funds to be returned.

I’m a La Trobe Melbourne student who paid for my permit in person, how will I get my refund?

La Trobe Melbourne students who paid in person for their permits will be contacted directly by the La Trobe Traffic and Parking office (traffic@latrobe.edu.au). This is because the permit holder’s bank details are required before the refund can be processed via a bank transfer.

I can’t see the refund in my bank account, what do I do?

Refunds for yearly and half-yearly permits will be returned via the original method of payment (i.e. debit/credit card) and will take approximately three weeks to process and for the funds to be returned. If after this time you still cannot see that the funds have been returned to you, please contact the La Trobe Traffic and Parking office on (03) 9479 8888 or traffic@latrobe.edu.au.
