What’s the Aspire Community Contribution program?

Have you been a leader? A volunteer? A key part of your community? Then we want to hear from you.

The Aspire Community Contribution program rewards your involvement in community, leadership and volunteering with an early conditional offer into your chosen course at La Trobe. This means that if your application is successful, you’ll know if you have a place at university from September. You will also be automatically considered for an Aspire scholarship worth up to $5,000 per year.

Who can apply?

The Aspire Community Contribution program is a great option for students that are looking to use their community service or leadership experience to secure a spot in their dream course at La Trobe.

We consider all past and present community engagement that makes a positive contribution, such as leadership, volunteering, family support or participation.

The Community Contribution program is open to:

  • Current Year 12 students

What university courses can I apply for?

The Aspire Community Contribution program will reward you with an Aspire ATAR and early conditional offer into all undergraduate programs at La Trobe.

This option will enable you to gain an early conditional entry at La Trobe, provided you meet the Aspire ATAR requirements and any other general course requirements for entry such as subject prerequisites or additional entry criteria.

Types of volunteering

Here are some examples of Aspire students' community work:

  • fundraising for charity
  • helping to run a school or community club
  • coaching a sports team
  • volunteering at a nursing home
  • mentoring younger students
  • leading as a school or house captain

How to apply

  • Confirm your eligibility

    To be eligible for Aspire Community Contribution, you will need ensure you meet the application criteria.

  • Prepare for your application

    Ensure you understand the program requirements and have everything in order to submit your program application.

    You’ll need to provide information about the length and frequency of your community service or volunteering experience, and describe your involvement and impact.

    Please respond to the following criteria:

    • Involvement (150 words): Describe the type of community engagement you are or were involved in, providing details about your participation in community service and/or volunteering activities.
    • Impact (150 words): Detail the impact of your actions on the community and how they have contributed to your personal growth and development.

  • Preference your Aspire course(s)

    You can only nominate up to three courses, so it's important to select your course preferences carefully. Conditional offers are released from September* and confirmed offers are released during the VTAC first round offers.

    • Year 12s: To secure your Aspire place, ensure the course you applied for with Aspire is listed among your preferences in VTAC/UAC. The offer you receive from VTAC/UAC will be for the course listed highest on your preference list, assuming you've met all the admission criteria. Remember, your Aspire offer is only available in the first round of offers.
  • Submit your application

    Once you’ve read through and understood the requirements, it's time to submit your application.

FAQ

An early conditional offer is an offer to say you have a place reserved for you in the course you’ve applied for, but you will still need to meet any entry requirements that are outlined in your offer.

The Aspire Community Contribution program is open to all undergraduate courses at La Trobe.

However, some courses may be more competitive due to limited places (e.g. Bachelor of Dental Science (Hons) and Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Hons)).

If you don't meet the requirements for Aspire Community Contribution, you can apply for any of the other Aspire programs, provided you can meet their eligibility requirements.

However, you can also still apply for any of the courses via the normal admission process through VTAC or apply for second chance Aspire.

Conditional offers will be released and received by applicants from September*.

Confirmed course offers will be released during the first round of VTAC/UAC offers.

The Aspire conditions are applicable only to the course that you have received an early offer for (this can't be changed).

You’ll still be considered via the normal admissions process for any other course you have listed in your VTAC/UAC preference list in order of your preferences.

If you’re a student volunteering with one of our partner organisations, you’ll receive an automatic conditional offer at La Trobe when you provide this detail within your Aspire application. The minimum requirement for you to attain a La Trobe conditional offer is set by the partner organisation. Please check with them to clarify the level of service you require.

To receive your conditional offer, you must follow the standard application process and ensure you meet the admission criteria.

We consider all community engagement, past and present, that makes a positive difference. Here’s some examples of Aspire students’ community work:

  • fundraising for charity
  • helping to run a school or community club
  • coaching a sports team
  • volunteering at an aged care home
  • mentoring younger students
  • leading as a school or house captain.

You can apply for all undergraduate courses at La Trobe through Aspire Community contribution.

You can apply for up to three (3) preferences, keeping in mind that some courses have limited places.

You may only receive one Aspire conditional offer for one of the courses preferenced in your application, in order of your preferences.

Students can submit their Aspire Community Contribution application and provide their VTAC ID once received at a later date. VTAC applications for the 2025 intake open in July, and students can submit their ID until 6 September, when Community Contribution applications close.
