What are pathways?

Pathways help you get into your chosen course through enrolling into another qualification after you finish high school. For example, you may complete a La Trobe Diploma or a TAFE Diploma as one pathway to a Bachelor's degree or start a related La Trobe degree and transfer into your chosen course.

How do I transfer from a pathway course?

If you didn’t get the ATAR you wanted, then a great option is to start a pathway course then transfer later, provided you meet the entry requirements. Learn more about course transfers.

Transfer after 2 years studying an Associate Degree with lower entry requirements

Explore Associate degrees

Complete a two-year Associate Degree to gain entry and credit for studies towards a range of degrees.

Gain an Associate degree qualification, with the option of exiting early with your qualification.

Transfer straight into third year of a range of degrees.

To be eligible, you must meet all entry requirements for your preferred course.

Once you meet all entry requirements, you can apply to a Bachelor’s degree with similar subjects or majors.

An Entry Program at La Trobe provides various ways to boost your application with the aim of getting an offer into your preferred course. These options can involve additional study in high school or alternatives to the traditional ATAR entry, such as athletic, work or community experience.

Priority Access Program

Get multiple adjustment factors based on your high schools’ relationship with La Trobe.

Pathways and entry programs for year 12 students

Priority school: Year 12 students attending schools that have a strong relationship with La Trobe University.

Priority campus: Year 12 students residing in geographical areas close to each of our campuses.

Regional school: Year 12 students attending schools in designated regional areas.

If you come from a regional school and scored an ATAR of 80 or higher, you could be guaranteed a place in your chosen course at La Trobe.

You will be eligible if you:

  • Come from a regional school with an ATAR of 80 or higher.
  • Study at La Trobe’s Bendigo, Albury-Wodonga, Mildura or Shepparton campuses.

Get additional consideration based on your elite athletic training and commitments

Elite athlete ATAR adjustment

Eligible elite athletes could have a five aggregate point adjustment factor applied towards their application to La Trobe.

Gain a five aggregate point adjustment factor applied towards your application to La Trobe.

You can apply for an ATAR adjustment of up to five aggregate points if you can:

  • demonstrate how your sporting commitments have impacted your previous studies and educational performance
  • provide a supporting statements from your secondary school and your coach or high performance or pathways manager

You'll still be required to meet the prerequisites and additional requirements of your preferred course and compete for a place on the basis of academic merit.

Special Entry Access Schemes (SEAS)

Apply for special consideration for those who have experienced some form of educational disadvantage.

Gain up to 20 aggregate point adjustment factor towards your application to La Trobe.

SEAS provides special consideration for those who have experienced some form of educational disadvantage under the following categories:

  • Personal information and location
  • Disadvantaged financial background
  • Disability or medical condition
  • Difficult circumstances

In addition to the application, some categories require you to include an impact statement and statement of support from a responsible person who can verify your claim.
