Subject outline

In this subject a scientific understanding of the chemical, physical and mechanical properties of some materials used in the fabrication of prosthetic and orthotic devices will be explored. Students will also be taught the basic materials handling skills required to begin fabrication of prosthetic and orthotic devices and will gain practical experience with materials, tools and machinery. They will learn safe working practices of the University workshops, and how to control the occupational health and safety risks encountered in prosthetic and orthotic fabrication.
