Subject outline

In this subject students survey the international politics of the Northeast Asian region, focusing on the Korean Peninsula as a case study. The subject will consider the 20th century history of Korea; the political and economic evolution of South and North Korea since 1945; the role of the United States, China and Japan in Korean affairs; Korean diaspora communities in North east Asia; energy and environmental security in the two Korea's; human rights; and future scenarios for South and North Korea. Students will learn how foreign policy makers,states and non-state actors interact dynamically within the bounds of onverging political, social, economic and environmental forces at the regional level.
