FOUNDATIONS OF PROFESSIONAL COMMUNICATION

In this subject, students will explore the importance of communication as a foundation to their practice as a health professional. Students will examine how personal and cultural factors, values and life experiences may influence professional communication. Students will develop a suite of communication skills as a foundation for culturally safe and reflective practice as a health professional. Students will study concepts of professionalism, ethics, interprofessional collaborative practice and digital literacy as it relates to contemporary health care practice. Students will work in teams to develop an understanding of teamwork that involves individuals cooperating and collaborating towards a shared goal. This subject supports the development of foundation academic skills and information literacy required for university study.

|One 2,000-word equivalent individual critically reflective portfolio Completion of weekly reflective activities will build reflective portfolio throughout the semester and account for 10% of this assessment task. Students will be offered formative feedback on their weekly reflective portfolio in Week 2 of semester.
