Subject outline

In this subject you will examine the impact of advanced information technologies on the management of change in health information services and health information and communications technology (ICT) services. They will address professional issues, strategic planning, budget preparation and management, workforce management and workplace legislation specific to the management of health data and information. This subject draws together all components of the course, developing an overview of health information management practice, and providing the opportunity to synthesise critical and emerging technological, management, legislative, clinical and policy developments.

01. Analyse the socio-technical factors surrounding health information management environments and their implications for health information management work.
02. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills to develop strategies supporting macro- and micro-planning functions, budgetary and financial operations, and management in health information environments.
03. Assess and evaluate the relevance of theoretical approaches to staff management in the areas of patient/client information, and achieve competence in applying a set of practical management skills in health information workplaces.
04. Apply safety, equity and other relevant legislative requirements to the health information service and health ICT workplace.
05. Demonstrate acquired knowledge and competence in the development, implementation and embedding of change driven by emerging technologies and changing policy environments in health information management.
06. Communicate confidently and effectively when presenting to an audience in the workplace, and negotiating in the health information management role.
