INTRODUCTION TO LANGUAGE TEACHING

Students are introduced to the principles that inform the teaching of English to speakers of other languages in primary, post-primary and adult teaching contexts. They examine the principles and resources used in second, foreign and minority language teaching, and develop skills in planning, implementing and evaluating lessons. They also explore issues related to program design, including needs analysis, frameworks for the development of curriculum, assessment frameworks and procedures, and approaches to syllabus design. The teaching contexts of both local and overseas students, including teaching English as a second and as a foreign language are addressed.
