BUILDING INFORMATION MODELLING

You will gain understanding as to how Building Information Modelling (BIM) technologies are utilised for developing and delivering simple to complex projects in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industries, and explore how BIM is practically used to design, undertake procurement, develop costing and manage buildings and infrastructure projects. Learning from this subject will also equip you with the necessary knowledge required to demonstrate how BIM is used to support effective decision making, assess alternative solutions and manage site safety and quality for building and infrastructure works. You will develop skills to integrate and facilitate construction work using intelligent design, 3D and other technologies and their application to architecture, engineering, costing, construction, and project management and the future of BIM technology.

Learning ActivitiesThe fundamental concepts and theories are explained and discussed in the lectures. Workshops are used to consolidate the knowledge and practice the applications of taught theories. Labs are used to reinforce the hands-on aspects of the subject. There are two individual assessment tasks, and two group assessment tasks.
