Subject outline

The functional components of a Health Information Service and the responsibilities of Health Information Managers are examined in relation to the management of health records, building on the knowledge gained in HIM2MHA and developing skills in a related health business communication genre. You become familiar with electronic and manual systems for health record identification, filing, tracking and other Health Information Service functions. You integrate introductory theory and practice by undertaking a short professional practice placement in the Health Information Service of a healthcare agency to which they are assigned. Regular contact between students and La Trobe University Academic Supervisors is maintained during the placement via the University's Learning Management System, telephone, on-site visits and email communications.
