SPANISH 9: CINEMA OF THE HISPANIC WORLD

SPA4009

2020

Credit points: 15

Subject outline

This course offers an introduction to the most defining aspects of Hispanic cinema, through the critical survey of a list of highly significant films from Spain and Latin America. Students will be able to analyse and understand the historical and social context of Hispanic cinema at the same time as they develop their communication and research skills in either Spanish or English. Furthermore, they will have the opportunity to develop a more complex and enriching experience of film texts in general. Both auteur cinema and relevant film sub-genres will be represented in order to shed light on the interplay between the Hispanic cinema and the complexities and conflicts of the history and society of Spanish-speaking countries.
