Subject outline

In this subject students combine the further development of language skills through a variety of activities, with the study of aspects of Spanish and Latin American cultural and literary texts. Grammatical study is complemented by advanced practical oral work. This subject addresses La Trobe's Global Citizenship Essential. Global Citizenship entails deep appreciation of how we live in an interconnected world, being able to recognize the global context of concepts, act across cultures and boundaries, and work with diverse communities now and in the future.

01. Comprehension: understand the main ideas of a complex text on a variety of topics in Spanish
02. Speaking: present your ideas and to interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity in Spanish with your colleagues and with native speakers of Spanish
03. Writing: produce a clear, detailed text on a reasonable range of subjects. Ability to synthesise in writing various ideas on a cultural subject and to formulate an argument of your own about them in Spanish
04. Inquiry and research, critical thinking: explain a view point on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options. Ability to undertake research in Spanish for a project and to understand and analyse a variety of scholarly sources.
