SOC3MSR

2020

Credit points: 15

Subject outline

Students are introduced to a range of current methods of social inquiry. These include both quantitative and qualitative research methods such as surveys, interviews, observation, content analysis, spatial analysis, the analysis of historical and policy documents and records and other unobtrusive methods. Students apply these techniques innovatively to complete research projects on current social issues and gain critical understanding of the suitability of various research strategies and approaches. Working collaboratively, the new ideas generated have the potential to create change relating to the social issue identified. This subject a addresses La Trobe's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Essential. Innovation and Entrepreneurship entail developing the ability to tackle problems creatively, generating new ideas, taking calculated risks and creating change to achieve ambitions - now and in the future.
