Subject outline

This subject is one of 6 professional practicum subjects across different specific areas of practice. Students are required to meet competency in 6 specific practice areas to meet professional accreditation requirements. In this subject students are in supervised clinical practice for 20 days over 5 weeks and prescribed independent learning (total subject hours 160). Prior to commencing this subject students must complete a compulsory 5 day pre-clinical program comprising a 1 day seminar at their La Trobe University campus, followed by 4 days of orientation and learning within their clinical school. Clinical practicums are supervised by registered physiotherapists and may be organised outside normal teaching weeks. Students will develop specific competencies in the assessment of clients' problems and needs, analysis of assessment findings, formulation of short and long term goals and development, implementation and evaluation of intervention plans. Students will apply specialised knowledge, cognitive and technical skills to demonstrate autonomy, expert judgement, adaptability and responsibility as a learner.
