PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE - TRANSITION TO THE WORKPLACE
POL3PCW
2020
Credit points: 30
Subject outline
This subject aims to equip students to work with and for organisations that have a strong interest in the (international) political and economic arenas (government, business, IGOs, NGOs etc). The subject coordinator will oversee the student's design of projects and workplaces. Selection and development of a project is guided by its likely educational and learning outcomes and usefulness in advancing the student's career aspirations. Students are challenged to reflect upon and refine their career aspirations and to independently search out appropriate placements. Projects are designed to develop practical employability skills in a professional setting (such as applied research, networking, program management etc). The placement experience is tailored to each students needs and specific aspirations. Placements are organised the semester before they are undertaken in Semester 2 so students are asked to enrol in PCW at the start of the year and all POL3PCW students also required to attend four two-hour workshops in Semester 1. Enrolment to undertake a placement in Semester 1 is by approval only, please contact the subject coordinator.
