Younger and older patients are commonly seen in podiatric practice and represent areas of clinical specialisations. This subject will prepare students for clinical practice in these sub-disciplines. In this subject, students will develop the clinical reasoning and clinical management skills for meeting the requirements of specific populations of patients commonly seen in paediatrics and gerontology.

Intended Learning Outcomes

01. Analyse critically, reflect on and synthesise complex problems related to the paediatric and gerontology settings relevant to a podiatry practice.
02. Formulate, recommend and evaluate a management plan to meet the individual and specific needs of the paediatric and gerontology related patient that is clear, adaptable and applies the principles of rehabilitation.
03. Interpret and transmit knowledge, skills and ideas to other allied health and medical professionals, in the same field, in addition to non-specialist audiences such as the patient.
04. Use expert judgement to justify the referral of a paediatric or older adult patient to another allied health or medical professional.
05. Engage in team work but also demonstrate autonomous practice when applying expert judgement in the synthesis of complex cases for the paediatric and gerontology related patient.
