Subject outline

Cities and regions are increasingly tasked with reimagining places in response to problems such economic restructuring, attracting high skilled workers or competing for the tourist dollar. Place branding is becoming more strongly linked to their status as nurturing entrepreneurialism, fostering liveability and facilitating cultural and creative production and consumption. Planners, cultural producers and communities need to carefully consider the existing blueprint models of regeneration when attending to the needs of people and place, For example, creative economies emerge from rural as well as urban areas, and ideas stem from existing industries beyond arts. Students will explore creative policy interventions, while critically examining the social and spatial implications of planning creative cities and regions and explores new ideas. This subject addresses La Trobe's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Essential. Innovation and Entrepreneurship entails developing the ability to tackle problems creatively, generating new ideas, taking calculated risks and creating change to achieve ambitions.
