APPROACHES TO PUBLIC HEALTH PROBLEMS
PHE5WPH
2020
Credit points: 15
Subject outline
This foundational subject provides students with a broad grounding in the forms of knowledge, disciplines and ways of thinking that shape public health approaches to contemporary health issues. The subject builds around multiple issue-based case studies that range in focus from the clinical to the global. Students investigate the insights and contributions offered by a wide range of academic disciplines and fields of practice, drawing on anthropology, psychology, biostatistics, data analytics, economics, epidemiology, history, management and public administration, political science, population health sciences, health promotion, research, and sociology. Selected public health frameworks are used to demonstrate how insights from these disciplines and fields can be combined to identify, describe and analyse public health problems, and to design, implement, evaluate and adapt responses and solutions.
