Subject outline

This subject is concerned with integrated health promotion - a contemporary approach to acting on determinants of health through a mix of interventions and capacity building strategies. You will examine guiding principles for an integrated health promotion approach, and how these have been applied to improve the health and wellbeing of communities. Three types of case studies from Australian and international contexts will be critically assessed: (i) elemental settings (schools, universities, health care facilities, markets, workplaces, retail facilities, prisons); (ii) contextual settings (cities, communities, islands, villages); and (iii) healthy public policy and health in all policies. You will gain skills in formulating integrated health promotion approaches to addressing issues of interest to you. You will also gain critical insights into key issues in implementing a integrated health promotion approach: developing skilled multidisciplinary teams, forming partnerships and networks and mobilising and sustaining leadership.
