Credit points: 15
Subject outline
In this subject, you will develop the core knowledge for enhancing wellbeing and promoting flourishing in sport settings through creating positive sporting environments. Through exposure to evidence based literature on topics such as positive emotions, achievement goal theory, autonomy support and mindfulness acceptance and commitment approaches you will learn how to create positive sporting environments for individuals, teams (which includes the sporting team and others such as the coaching or sports medicine team) and sporting organisations. You will also learn the counselling and communication skills required to promote wellbeing and flourishing within sporting environments. Specifically you will learn how to work with groups and deliver core counselling skills and strategies (such as cognitive behavioural strategies and the mindfulness acceptance and commitment approach) within a motivational interviewing framework. This subject addresses La Trobe's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Essential, which entails developing ability to tackle problems creatively, generating new ideas and taking calculated risks to create change.
