Subject outline
In this subject, students examine chronic conditions with emphasis on issues pertaining to management of these conditions at a community level. There will be a concentration on theories and constructs relevant to healthy self-management and effective social support for those living with chronic conditions. The content of the subject includes presentation of the World Health Organization's classification systems relevant to disability (ICIDH - The International Classification of Impairments, Disabilities, and Handicaps , ICF - International Classification of Functioning ) and illustration of the application of this framework to chronic illness conditions across the life-span.
