The role of the healthcare professional in the harm minimisation space is ever-expanding. You will build on skills learned in Introduction to Substance Use and learn to apply these skills in a practical way in their everyday practice. As well as online activities, you will be required to attend a one-day workshop and an experiential placement to complete this subject.

Need to complete a minimum of 6 hours clinical placement.

01. Evaluate the role of healthcare professionals in maintaining the health of patients with dependence and understand the objectives, legal requirements, ethical considerations and other key aspects of treatment
02. Consolidate an understanding about evidence based patient centred-care and the strategies employed to ensure appropriate diagnosis, treatment and referral.
03. Develop a business strategy to successfully implement medication assisted treatment of opioid dependence into the practice of a pharmacist
04. Evaluate the collaborative role the health professional can play in the multidisciplinary treatment team of a patient being managed for substance dependence working with other professionals and the broader alcohol and other drugs service sector.
05. Analyse the influences on the patient consultation process and therapeutic relationship and how it may influence a patients behaviour and the clinicians decision-making in relation to the given situation.
