INTERMEDIATE ORTHOPTIC CLINICAL PRACTICE
ORT5CLC
2020
Credit points: 30
Subject outline
This is one of three final year professional practicum subjects. Dependent on the placement, you will focus on different specialized areas of practice. Supervised clinical practice occurs for 20 days over 4 weeks across one or multiple placement sites where you will consolidate and build on basic clinical and patient-handling skills, and learn essential patient management strategies. At the end of the placement, it is expected that you will have developed broader clinical experience in the investigation and management of acute and chronic eye disease, strabismus and ocular motility disorders, and to management patients with visual or general disability. This subject will enable you to progress to the final Orthoptic Clinical Practicum subject. Attendance at professional placements will also contribute to meeting minimum requirements for workplace experience and professional accreditation.
